Vizhealth

Using Vizhealth

Data visualizations are crucial to a great infographic. These visuals aid in enhancing the text on the page. As human beings we are wired to comprehend images better than text, so it is only right that we incorporate those visuals into mediums like infographics. Reading data and information can only go so far; images allow us to remember and recall the data that we analyze.

Vizhealth

Vizhealth is a website that allows users to easily create data visualizations. You simply input the data that you have collected and design it to your own liking. While it does not have the same functions that more complex websites like Excel have, it is a great tool for beginners to use for visualizations for their infographics.

Risk Calculator

One function that I am fascinated by in Vizhealth is the Risk Calculator. You simply enter information in each category such as gender, age, health info, etc. The output is aesthetic pleasing to the eye as it provides us with a graph that is clear and concise to the audience. For my first experiment with the Risk Calculator, I entered data that was similar to myself. Instantly, I was given a visualization of the risk based on the given info. In large, bold, and bright font, the graph displayed a 2% risk of cardiovascular disease.

Next, I tried varying the information to see how the change in data would affect the graph. I entered information that would correspond with that of the average elderly man. For instance, in the calculator I input a 6'0" male with high blood pressure, diabetes, and overall poor health in general. As expected, the graph exhibited a graph that clearly displayed high risk for cardiovascular disease.

Overall, this function was easy to use, giving a beginner like myself the opportunity to create visuals that both convey information and are appealing to viewers.

Icon Array Generator

Another useful function of Vizhealth is the Icon Array Generator. This tool was extremely simple to use as you input the numbers relevant to your data while editing the format and coloring to your preference. I like that you are able to edit the arrays to fit your data, from the title to the axis labels, from the coloring to the icons themselves. I experimented with the tool and created an icon array that depicts the ratio of men o women who serve in the United States Army. I was able to change the percentage for males that I needed to the man icon and making the color blue. I did the same for the remaining percentage by making those the female icons pink. This tool was also easy to use, allowing me to quickly make visualizations without complications in technology.

Conclusion

Ultimately, Vizhealth is a great tool that is easy and straightforward to use. Despite programs like Excel being extremely useful for data and visualizations, it can be difficult to use, especially for those who are not technologically inclined. Vizhealth's simplicity is a fantastic tool for anyone who may need data visualizations for different forms of media like infographics. Visualizations are the core to a memorable infographic, making it easy to recall and spread to others. Therefore, I had a great experience using Vizhealth.
