Health Visualization tools

Experiance With Risk Calculator

When I tried the risk calculator I though it was pretty cool. I experimented to see the different imputs and how it can change the results. With the first one, the disease was very low and in the green. However in  the other was so in the red and higlighted. The visual impact was pleaseing because not only did the number change but the colors on the screen did as well. The "see doctor" is highlighting the urgency in the matter making it more powerful than the numbers alone.

Icon Array Generator

Then I started to use the icon array generator. The purpose of this was to display the risk as a grid of people icons. In my ecounter, the array highlighted the figures in blue to really see the risk well instead of just thinking about the 30%. I could literally visualize it in front of me. I like this one a lot better because of the way that it is displayed. The proportions become so easy to read because it looks more aesthetically pleasing and it feels like Im not focusing to hard on the numbers.

Conclusion

I think using the Visualizing  Health tool is very effective. It helps people see factors that they probaly have overlooked which may casue an imporant health risk. The use of color coding mixed with text helps in a way that makes looking at things very easy. Combined with the simplicty involved. The site doesnt just communicate health risks but teaches on why visulization matters. I found this very informative and a good example on how designers can show complex information clearly.
