Lollipop Charts
What and Why?
Starting, A lollipop chart is typically a clear and minimalistic kind of visualization. Basically, it works like a bar chart, but a bit simpler than that. The thin line displayed on the chart represents the value, while the circle marker represents the exact data, giving it a lollipop appearance. The purpose of this kind of chart's design is to decrease clutter, trying to make it as easy as possible to understand what's presented. Each category has an easy design as well, so nothing looks too close to each other. Letting the viewers draw their attention to the "lollipop" part of the chart. It's a good kind of chart to use if you're comparing many categories and don't want a messy-looking visual. The thin lines allow for a cleaner look and give more white space for the background.
My Lollipop Chart
For my lollipop chart, which is displayed below, I used Canva as a tool to make it. I'm not going to lie, I think I made it harder on myself this way and should've used PowerPoint. At the end, it worked out, though. For my chart, I used 8 breeds of dogs and displayed how many pounds they weighed.
Hi Michelle, I loved viewing your lollipop chart. It was very organized and I liked how you included a range of weight in lbs for your y axis. A suggestion, I would include another graph to show viewers another example of a lollipop graph, one that isn't personal as well. This would increase viewers knowledge of lollipop graphs to its fullest potential.
ReplyDeleteHello, your chart looks very professional like the pink and the slanted the slanted data point titles on the x-axis. If you just make a line chart with markers and right click the line connecting the data points, you can make the color of the line transparent, then you can just go to chart design and add the drop lines.
